Functionally, this rack is very effective. Initially, I had to spend about thirty minutes affixing the bike and wheel wells into place. But now, it takes two minutes to lock and load. The only drawback is securing the bikes from theft. I like to go to restaurants or shops before or after a bike ride. But the rack does not come with and is not fitted to receive locking devices to secure the bikes to the car hitch, or rack. I had to get a long, wire lock to lock the bikes to the hitch receiver and then use the same lock to secure the rack to the hitch receiver when I'm off biking. Functionally, great for the price. But security could be a little lacking.

Works good, after I got a longer 2" tube section. When I mounted to back of our fifth wheel trailer it was too close so bike would hit trailer. Problem was that my hitch on trailer was mounted under trailer too far.

Bought on Amazon. Best price anywhere by far. Goes together in a snap and what I really like is how it folds up for easy storage. I can take it off the hitch and stow it in the vehicle when I am off riding. I like the way it supports the bike from below as opposed to having bikes hanging by their frames. Well thought out design, and even the locking (clevis pins) are attached by a small cable to keep from loosing them. Swagman sells an extension to add two more bikes if you need it. I only carry one bike, and have room to carry a second if someone wants to join me on a ride. I highly recommend this carrier.

This is a good product but has a critical design flaw. It amazes me when a product is designed once for mass production and it has design issues. The problem, which is supposedly corrected in the newer model, is that the center pole is not tall enough. My mountain bike is an 18 1/2" frame (medium size)with a normal shock and it is too tall for this rack. The frame grip can't come down far enough to get to the wratchet section to hold the bike. It is a shame because, other than this, it is a well designed product and it would have been easy and inexpensive to make the pole taller. How this wasn't tested to death before production is beyond me. The product description only says it will accomodate any frame and doesn't say to what height-not good. I had to send it back at my cost.

Fairly easy to mount and remove bicycles. I like the bikes' weight riding on the tires rather than on the center frame. The plastic adaptor for a 2" receiver did not provide adequate support for me, so I bought a metal adaptor. The included screw-in pin is difficult to quickly install and remove, would rather have a larger opening for a standard hitch lock.

This is light weight (can be carried and put on hitch by an average woman) and is easy to use. Bikes lock on with a single clamp. Unlike another reviewer, I think the screw-in hitch bolt is great. When turned in tightly the bikes don't sway at all. In fact, I had the same fastener replicated for my hitch riser so anything I put on is firm. Great product!

You recomended that I purchase a Master lock class III/IV snap on reciever hitch lock with a 5/8 inch pin, when I purchased my Swagman XC Cross-Country 2-Bike hitch mount rack.
The pin does not fit into in the hitch arm. I will have to either use the screw pin which is difficult to remove the rack when I am not using or midify the hitch to use the hitch lock that you recomrnded.

Product performs as described. Light & strurdy. The low mount design provides for easy placement of bikes. I used a racheting tie-down to pull the rack to one side to prevent the hitch from rattling in the reciever. This rack would be perfect if it had a locking pin.

I was very happy with the quality of this bike rack. It will work perfect for what I wanted it for. I was a little unhappy with the fact the picture shows a 2" tube all the way from the receiver to the back. I was hoping to be able to buy another rack in 2 to 3 months to add on the end of this to hold up to 4 bikes. The item sent had a 2" receiver for the first 4" then it was a 1.25" tube on. It did say 2 bike hitch mount rack... The picture shows a 2" tube all the way. Quality of the product was great expecially for the price...

I needed a bike rack that I could use without assistance. I am able to mount this rack onto the hitch and remove it without help. It is low enough to the ground that even this weak old lady can lift her bike up onto the rack with minimal difficulty. The bracket that secures the bike is easy to adjust and I don't need any extra bars, straps etc. for my bike to fit securely. I only wish I had bought the locking pin to go with it. I highly recommend the Swagman bike rack to everyone, especially those with women's bikes.

I've been been through 8-10 bike racks over the last 40 years, and most of them have been good at accommodating bikes with the traditional crossbar design.As my wife and I have gotten "old" and adapt to various joint "issues", we have gravitated to bikes with designs that allow more comfort. My wife rides a beach cruiser with a "girls" frame, and I ride an extended length bike with a more curved support frame. Neither of these bikes work well with the traditional hanger type rack that fits into the 2"hich receiver on our van.The Swagman XCountry solves this problem. The bike wheels are supported in wheel wells rather than hanging by their frames, so it doesn't matter what kind of frame the bike has. The Swagman is easy on, easy off, and easy store. I've been very satisfied. I have one suggestion, though. When you puchase the Swagman, call the manufacturer and order a locking threaded hitch pin for about $25. The threaded hitch pin that comes with the unit is really good at preventing the rack from wobbling,but it doesn't lock the draw bar to the hitch receiver.

Very solid way to mount bikes but you may have to make a couple of changes to carry two bikes of greatly different sizes. I ride a 61cm frame road bike. My wife rides a small frame hybrid. I had to install the wheel holding loops upside down in order to fit the larger bike. (Got this idea from another review of the same rack). I also replaced the plastic adjusting knobs with hex bolts in order to tighten the loops securely. I cut a small length of foam pipe insulation to protect the frame where the hooks touch...just a precaution.

Once set up, bikes are easy to load and unload. There is NO movement while driving. If you have a pickup and are carrying two bikes with straight handle bars (mountain bikes), there maybe a clearance issue with the bike closest to the truck. There is a longer bar available in that case. SUV's should have no problem.

I got this rack mainly to carry 1 recumbent on the back of my minivan. The Swagman rack does this successfully, but just barely adjusts enough to fit the bike in the wheel holders with one of the hoops slid all the way to the end. On the plus side, it's quite easy to put the bike on and the bike is very stable, with almost no movement. I use an old leather toeclip strap on the back wheel because it could slide within the hoop. Some other brands include velcro straps or provide other means of securing the wheels. Another plus is that it folds easily for storage and the top tube folds down to open the van's tailgate. The frame clamp slides quickly into place and holds the bike securely.

On the minus side, this rack, unlike similar brands, does not incorporate a hitch riser. The rack rides lower to the road than I'd like, especially with the long bar it uses to go into the hitch receiver. Another minus is that the locking balls on the pins that keep the folding sections in place are almost too small to remain in the holes. They do have little wire keepers and thankfully none have come out yet. A third minus is that the metal brackets used to attach the wheel hoops are lighter than they should be and seem to have bent down slightly from use. Finally, some other brands come with an adapter to allow use with either size of hitch, while the Swagman is for 2" only.

In sum, if this is the only brand you can find, it will probably do the job. However, I'd try to find another brand that overcomes some of the minuses I've found.

No problems so far with this product. Very pleased. The screw in hitch pin works just fine and secures the bike rack very well. No sway, rattle, or vibration. Better security against theft would be nice. I use a cable lock to secure the bike to the hitch and a very small regular lock on the hitch pin where a cotter pin would normally go. I would also feel better if the pins securing the arms of the rack in place used cotter pins.

But the price is great, and these minor issues are easily worked out.
