I modified the front weight rack by adding a front bumper and a 2 receiver. This is very handy. As you can see I have barbell weights in the receiver and I can change it out to carry several different hitches. One that works well is an expanded metal cargo carrier. If I want to return the weight back to the original all that I have to do is remove the bumper and the receiver.

Fairly easy to insert the first time and was a good price; also "low profile" haven't had one of these stolen, like the "auto manufacturer logo" ones; even in a HUGE hospital parking lot;where like-it-or-not these things do happen. I'd have given it 5 stars; but it had a HORRIBLE SMELL (worse than tires) to it when I first got it, though that's normal for raw rubber and it's not like I'm wearing it or sniffing it on a regular basis ! I don't tow often (less than weekly) so don't know if it would work as well for frequent removal and replacement; in all honesty. I do think it would probably do well, though.

Product performs as described. Light & strurdy. The low mount design provides for easy placement of bikes. I used a racheting tie-down to pull the rack to one side to prevent the hitch from rattling in the reciever. This rack would be perfect if it had a locking pin.

I purchased this rack to carry two mountain bikes on my Ford minivan. As others have said on their review, this is a great value. My only issue with this rack is that once I installed the two bikes, the handlebar of the mountain bike installed closest to the car comes dangerously close to the glass (with only about 1/8" clearance of the glass on the rear trunk door. Needless to say, I'm concerned about hitting a bump on the road and shattering the glass. I don't know if the location of the hitch in my car is too far back, as I don't see others having this problem, they even mention having enough clearance installing it with a rear spare tire on their car. I could have used a longer receiver bar on mine. I'm keeping the rack because most of the time I'm going to be carrying just one bike which I will install on the outside, but when I have to carry two bikes I will have to place some kind of padding on the handle bar of the bike closest to the car, or purchase a longer receiver bar that will work.
What I really like about this rack is that I can easily remove it and store it inside my car, it isn't extremely heavy or cumbersome and it will save me having to purchase the two locking pins needed to prevent theft of the rack. If you are planning to go on a long trip and leaving your bikes unattended you will not only need to purchase two locking pins for the rack, but also a set of 2 swagman locking knobs for the wheel trays of each bike and a cable bicycle lock to secure your bikes to the hook holders, this will prevent someone from lifting your bikes off the rack. Each hook holders has a hole on the side through which one can place a cable with a lock.

I just purchased one of these along with the locking 5/8 hitch pin in what I thought was a nice package. However, now that I've actually received the rack the combination is useless. They have changed the design of the attachment to the hitch. Instead of a standard 5/8 pin, it uses a proprietary threaded bolt which is too small to allow the use of a hitch pin. The advantage is that the rack can be attached tightly to the hitch. The (major) disadvantage is that it now requires a wrench to install and remove. Had I known this I probably would have bought a different model, and definitely not bought the locking pin. When I called Swagman to complain they tried to blame Amazon for having outdated information. However, Swagman's own support website has the old design in the instructions, which do not match the product I received. The representative tried to convince me it was an improvement, I don't agree.

UPDATE:

I contacted Swagman again about my concerns and they sent me an old style connector bar for free. Kudos to them for great customer service, if I could I would add another star to my rating. However, my concerns above about the new design are still an issue. As I mentioned, it now requires a wrench to install/remove. Also, as mentioned in another review the threads on the hitch pin don't seem to operate smoothly out of the box. If they were to become damaged (seems quite possible) then you would not be able to use the rack at all. I understand what they were trying for with the new design, but it seems like change for the sake of change rather than a true improvement.

Swagman is starting to ship these with their latest revision, which has the 2" hitch adapter (removable) and about a 4" rise in the lower bar of the assembly - which is great for avoiding scrapes when dealing with driveways, etc.

I'm not a big fan of the wheel loops, as their higher end models (XTC2 for example) physically locks the wheel in place from left to right and seems to secure it by using more area. When mounted on my car (2006+ VW GTI) the inner bike is a tad bit close to the body of the car and the right pedal may touch the license plate frame; I would recommend removing that pedal for transport.

Great solid (and heavy) construction as many have mentioned, but when folded up I am having a hard time finding somewhere to store this beast. I added red reflective tape to the bottom, bike-holding, arms of the unit so that it would be more visible at night (highly recommended, $2 upgrade from Walmart). Also, I've added cable Velcro ties to each of the wheel loops so that I can secure the wheels to the rack just that much more - make sure to get something longer than 11 inches.

For the price and what you get, you can't beat the value. I look at other racks from Saris and Thule and I simply cannot justify the 150+ price difference.

The hitch worked great, easy to mount and put together. Be careful though, someone uploaded a picture that depicted the hitch being a fold up. You have to buy the folding shank separately for about $75.00. I was a little peeved because I thought it would be a fold up, but in the end I didn't need it to fold. If you plan on using it all the time, for a wheel chair for example, get the folding shank.

This product has proved to be a very solid and reliable bike rack for the money. I don't use it everyday so didn't want to pay a fortune, this rack was the right choice for me. It has held up very well. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it seems to have a little more "play" between the components that some of the higher end racks, but this is not an issue, just being a little picky. The fold down feature is great also. This is a great rack for the money and will last a long long time.

This was my first hitch mounted rack and was far superior to my trunk mounted rack. It is great for short trips to the bike store, the trail, across town, etc. . . The problem comes in when you get on the highway or go any long distance. The bikes will move on the rack from the wind and can rub against each other or worse work the straps loose. I went out of town for a mountain bike race and when I got there I found that my rear derailleur and hanger were both bent because my MTB had slid into my road bike which cost me a little over $100.00 to repair, not to mention scratched the paint on both bikes.

I had to reluctantly replace my old Sportworks rack (moved and had no room to transport it)and found that the simple hitch pin/theft deterrent system Sportworks used has not been carried over by Thule. Instead Thule supplies a 12mm x 40mm short threaded bolt. Then I discovered that Thule wants $50 for a hitch pin bolt w/a cheesy looking yuppie lock "system".
Sporkworks utilized a simple and practical partially threaded hex head bolt w/a hole on opposite end for attaching a small padlock or cotter pin, simple easy, no rattle w/lock washer and impossible for the pin to completely back off.
So I purchased a 12mm dia x 80mm long partially threaded bolt $2.25 that would extend thru the receiver, drilled a hole (you'll want a drill press) that would accommodate a small padlock $1.50 and presto I had an IMO a secure, rattle free "locking hitch pin". The benefit is the bolt extends thru the receiver so the lock is on the opposite side in the event the bolt unthreads it will not come out due to the pad lock and you will not loose your rack & bikes on the road.
I am disappointed that Thule did not provide this type of simple bolt set up like Sportworks did as original equipment. The Snug-Tite one key could have remained an option for those who care about such things but a $400.00 rack should come w/a a basic securing system that has a lock & loss prevention capability. Thinking about it I've never seen a hitch pin that did not extend thru the receiver so a cotter pin could not be used to prevent pin loss.
If I had to do it over I'd buy a KUAT brand Sherpa or better the NV, they come complete w/integrated hitch & bike locks for the same price, the NV has a built in repair stand. Anybody want to buy my once used Thule T-2?
